Derrick Hammond - Director

Originally from rural Nova Scotia, Derrick’s love of the outdoors led him to undergraduate studies in Geography and Political Science at the University of Ottawa and further graduate studies at the University of Waterloo, where his research focused on alternative legislative and policy approaches for natural area protection. In his thirty fourth year of municipal public service, Derrick began his career in the land use planning field and moved into municipal administration almost ten years ago. He is currently the Chief Administrative Officer of the Township of Muskoka Lakes. In addition, Derrick has also been an active Canadian Armed Forces reservist for over twenty-five years. Working in the Canadian Cadet program, he specializes in teaching leadership skills to adolescents through outdoor activities such as canoeing, mountain biking and hiking.  An avid back country camper, Derrick has paddled many lakes throughout Ontario and hiked various trails throughout Canada, the United States of America and Australia. He and his family have been exploring and calling Muskoka home since 1997.
