Since I moved to Muskoka in 1990, I have been committed to helping others appreciate the incredible natural landscape of our area. As a bilingual (English/French) teacher in both Bracebridge and Huntsville, my passion was environmental education. Science in my classroom was often outdoors and involved everything from identifying aquatic bugs to finding salamanders in their natural habitat to giant games that replicated food chains. I have my Environmental Science Specialist, often initiated school-wide Earth Week and environmental initiatives and received Muskoka Conservancy's Wayland Drew Natural Heritage award in 2007. At a community level, I have consistently been involved in environmental protection. Most recently, I was the Environment Chair of the Lake Vernon Association from 2019-2024. I was able to engage the lake community in a variety of new projects and initiatives, including a shoreline restoration project that involved over twenty volunteers, businesses in the area, the District of Muskoka, the Canadian Wildlife Federation and the MNRF. In 2004 and 2005, I was directly involved in the purchase and subsequent donation to the Muskoka Conservancy of two land trusts in my neighbourhood in Huntsville: Indigo Marsh and Pileated Ridge. Along with my two sons and my teaching career, I consider the preservation of these two ecologically significant areas of land for perpetuity to be an important part of my legacy. In my spare time, I can most often be found outdoors. My interests include nordic skiing, canoeing, mountain biking, adventure travel and spending time with my family and giant golden retriever.
